How you can help

You have a lot more influence on a kid you care about than you might think. The more you know about marijuana, the more you can help them turn a corner instead of turning to weed.

A little of your time can make a huge difference.

Kids need the care and support of an adult figure in their lives. Without that, children are much more likely to use marijuana. By being there for them, you can help them handle their stress and feelings of hopelessness.

Small talk. Big impact.

Not every conversation needs to be about prevention. Being a friendly and understanding ear for a kid can really go a long way. What’s important is that they feel seen.

The best time is anytime.

Don’t wait for the perfect moment to occur (it may never happen). Instead, look for any excuse to make a connection.

Make sure kids know about the dangers of weed.

With the legalization of weed and its medicinal uses it’s easy to perceive it as a harmless drug. Familiarize yourself with the adverse effects so you can warn the kids you care about the real dangers of using cannabis.

Be awkward.
Be serious.
Be silly.

Just be you.

Kids are looking for a genuine connection. Being your true self while providing valuable guidance is the best way to make an impact. Don’t overthink it. Be present, be available and reach out.

Just listen. Sometimes all a kid needs is to talk and be heard.

Show you care. Send a thoughtful text, pack them a lunch, or ask them about their day or if they need help with their homework.
